Gas Statement of Opportunities Consultation

The final scope of the National Gas Statement of Opportunities was approved by the Gas Market Leaders Group (GMLG) on 19 November and is available below.

In April 2008, the Ministerial Council on Energy (MCE) requested the GMLG to undertake a detailed design of a Gas Statement of Opportunities (GSOO), with the intention to assist industry participants in their future planning and in making commercial decisions on investments in infrastructure. The GMLG has developed a consultation paper (attached below) with the view to gaining industry and relevant stakeholders' input as to the potential scope of the GSOO.

This link provides further information on GMLG.

The changes to the National Gas Law and National Gas Rules relating to the functions of AEMO include the requirement to publish a GSOO annually.

The GSOO for 2009 is now being prepared, and the following can be downloaded below:

  • A report which sets out the methodologies used to develop the GSOO demand forecasts.
  • A spreadsheet workbook containing the demand forecasts used for the GSOO supply-demand analysis.
  • A consultant's report relating to gas reserves which has been prepared to inform development of the GSOO. The report shows the results of the consultant's analysis which AEMO will take into account along with stakeholder feedback and other information when developing the GSOO.
